Case report assisted and written by James Krall from the School of Optometry at Indiana University. Graduation date of May 2025.
A patient presented to CCLIM with a history of congenital aniridia OU.
This pt has a surgical history of limbal stem cell transplant OD and multiple glaucoma surgeries OU including a large tube shunt OD. The patient achieved best vision in scleral lenses but has a complicated scleral architecture due to the complicated surgical history.
We fitted this patient in an Eyeprint Pro scleral lens to precisely fit their anatomy and prevent obstruction of the patient’s bleb.
They are able to achieve a BCVA of 20/80 OD and report this is an improvement over glasses or traditional contact lenses.
Due to the history of limbal stem cell transplant, corneal edema is a complication this patient experiences with scleral lens wear. We used acuity 200 material for maximum oxygen permeability and will consider fenestrations in the scleral lens in the future.
Currently the patient is increasing lens wear to 4 hours daily.
